My PANCE prep story is one of hope and of normalcy.
For the duration of my PA program, I had been told multiple times how terrible the PANCE test was -- that it was terribly difficult and you would feel as if you were hit by a truck afterwards. This freaked me out for years.
One of my favorite quotes is “by small and simple things are great things brought to pass,” and I decided to study like that. I used multiple-choice question reviews and did maybe 20 questions per day throughout my rotation year. I used this method to study for End-Of-Rotation Exams and passed them all with flying colors.
I do not recommend spending a lot of money on exam prep services. I think picking one that is included in your program tuition or one you’ve heard good things about is fine. Simple is best in my opinion!
I was hoping that repeated exposure over a long period of time would prepare me for the boards. As the month of my test approached, I decided NOT to ramp up my studying. At this point, you know what you know, right? I decided to make sure I was sleeping eight hours a night, getting exercise, and staying calm. Of course I was nervous for the test, but I felt ready.
The week before my exam I didn’t study at all! I’m here to tell you, I felt FINE after the test. I thought it was hard, but not bad at all. I did not feel like a truck hit me. I didn’t feel like I failed. I felt happy and accomplished.
My advice to you is to know IT IS MANAGEABLE. Very few people fail. Study small amounts over time and make sure you’re taking care of yourself near test time. You’ve got this!
