Trauma Center Education Course Helps Hospitals Quickly Educate Staff Physicians, Nurses and PAs for Trauma Center Certification Requirements

Trauma Center CME Course online provides hospitals with a fast and effective way to educate clinical staff for ACS trauma center certification requirements and allows staff to earn trauma center CME credit anytime.

If your hospital or clinical setting is interested in getting certified as a trauma center, one of the key elements to trauma center certification is staff trauma education and verifying trauma center education.  Getting trauma center certified can be completed quicker with the right tools for online staff trauma center education and luckily there are some very effective medical education management solutions for clinical staff trauma center education and validation.

Trauma Center Certification

Over recent years, the U.S. has seen a surge in trauma centers opening up as hospitals expand their offerings to treat critically injured patients while also increasing their bottom line. At the same time, dangerous remote work operations and emergency response teams are realizing the importance of having trauma centers on hand to reduce permanent disablement and death from serious injuries.

But while the benefits of trauma centers may be obvious, the path to setting one up is less straightforward.

Trauma Center Designations

Trauma center levels across the United States are identified in two fashions – A designation process and a verification process. The different levels (ie. Level I, II, III, IV or V) refer to the kinds of resources available in a trauma center and the number of patients admitted yearly. These are categories that define national standards for trauma care in hospitals. Categorization is unique to both Adult and Pediatric facilities.

Trauma Center designation is a process outlined and developed at a state or local level. The state or local municipality identifies unique criteria in which to categorize Trauma Centers. These categories may vary from state to state and are typically outlined through legislative or regulatory authority.

Trauma Center Verification is an evaluation process done by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) to evaluate and improve trauma care. The ACS does not designate trauma centers; instead, it verifies the presence of the resources listed in Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient. These include commitment, readiness, resources, policies, patient care, and performance improvement.

This is a voluntary process by the Trauma Center being verified and lasts for a 3-year period.

If you are planning a trauma center, we recommend consulting your municipality’s or state’s governing agencies and resources for requirements and guidelines.

Trauma Center CME Requirements

Physicians practicing at facilities participating in ACS Accreditation/Verification programs may be subject to Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements. Individuals may meet these requirements with relevant AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ awarded by other accredited organizations. It is the responsibility of the individual to verify that the content meets the specific requirement.

Trauma Quality Improvement Program Pediatric (TQIP Pediatric)—Pediatric Trauma

In Level I and II pediatric trauma centers, the pediatric TMD must obtain and demonstrate a minimum of 36 hours of verifiable external trauma-related continuing medical education (CME) over a 3-year period. They can be accumulated at 12 hours annually.

Nine (9) of the hours must be specific to pediatric trauma.

Staff Education for Trauma Center Certification

Filling out paperwork is one thing.  Getting your team educated quickly and uniformly - and then being able to validate that knowledge uptake across all staff is quite another.  This is where centralized online medical education programs become priceless.  It's high quality education that can be verified on one screen, saving your organization time and effort in the trauma center certification process.

One leading provider of staff medical education is Med-Challenger.  Med-Challenger offers a well-regarded online medical education platform for hospitals and groups that organizations can apply to their existing operations without hassle.  The online "education portal" provides hospital administrators with the ability to assign and track educational content and knowledge assessments to clinicians across disparate locations and view, validate and record that education uptake from a single screen.

Med-Challenger offers comprehensive clinical knowledge review in all major medical specialties but it also provides a certification preparation and CME requirements course for trauma center certification - as well as resuscitation center education (ACLS, ATLS, PALS, NALS), cardiac center education and stroke center education among others.
