Getting trauma center certified can be completed quicker with the right tools for online staff trauma center education and luckily there are some very effective medical education management solutions for clinical staff trauma center education and validation.
Trauma Center Certification
Over recent years, the U.S. has seen a surge in trauma centers opening up as hospitals expand their offerings to treat critically injured patients while also increasing their bottom line. At the same time, dangerous remote work operations and emergency response teams are realizing the importance of having trauma centers on hand to reduce permanent disablement and death from serious injuries.
But while the benefits of trauma centers may be obvious, the path to setting one up is less straightforward.
Trauma Center Designations
Trauma center levels across the United States are identified in two fashions – A designation process and a verification process. The different levels (ie. Level I, II, III, IV or V) refer to the kinds of resources available in a trauma center and the number of patients admitted yearly. These are categories that define national standards for trauma care in hospitals. Categorization is unique to both Adult and Pediatric facilities.
Trauma Center designation is a process outlined and developed at a state or local level. The state or local municipality identifies unique criteria in which to categorize Trauma Centers. These categories may vary from state to state and are typically outlined through legislative or regulatory authority.
Trauma Center Verification is an evaluation process done by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) to evaluate and improve trauma care. The ACS does not designate trauma centers; instead, it verifies the presence of the resources listed in Resources for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient. These include commitment, readiness, resources, policies, patient care, and performance improvement.
This is a voluntary process by the Trauma Center being verified and lasts for a 3-year period.
If you are planning a trauma center, we recommend consulting your municipality’s or state’s governing agencies and resources for requirements and guidelines.
Trauma Center CME Requirements
Physicians practicing at facilities participating in ACS Accreditation/Verification programs may be subject to Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements. Individuals may meet these requirements with relevant AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ awarded by other accredited organizations. It is the responsibility of the individual to verify that the content meets the specific requirement.
